Beetroot (also Beets) 25 Feb, sharon (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Beetroot will turn white when cooked if you cut the stalks to close to the bulb before cooking Leave some stalk on when cooking or they bleed out into the water.

Chilli peppers (also Hot peppers) 23 Feb, Alison Smith (Australia - temperate climate)
Feb 10 - We've planted a black pearl capsicum - stunning black foliage & fruit. Just harvested and deseeded the ripe fruit (red). I will try my hand at growing some more from seed. I make the mistake of not handling them with gloves, so my hands are still stinging. The brother in law's a chilli fan, but these'll blow his head off!

Coriander (also Cilantro, Chinese parsley) 21 Feb, ashley (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
To Julie Lake , re coriander, thanks for the advice , convincing proof of the accuracy of your advice is just starting to appear in pots and garden I seeded about 2 months back - lets hope I get enough for a supply of seed. Will have to find some way for around the year supply because we really get through some and I hate buying those limp supermarket offerings. Thanks again.
Watermelon 20 Feb, Jo (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
I am growing a variety of watermelon called "red rocket". These are supposed to be, according to the tag, large oblong-shaped with a high yield, however, the only 2 fruit I have growing are just the size of small rockmelons and appear to have stopped growing. The oldest of these 2 is about 5 weeks now. Are my expectations of what is called large fruit and high yield too high, or do I need to do something to help them along. I have recently used Dynamic Lifter For Fruit and Citrus in the patch but am unsure if this will help. The other problem is that, although the plant is very vigorous and has plenty of flowers, it doesn't seem to fruit, even though I've used the brush trick to help pollinate. The only thing I can think of is that it doesn't get a lot of sun, but if this was the problem would that not also affect the quantity of flowers and health of the vine?
Watermelon 26 Sep, gordon lee (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
hello, last year 2019 i grew red rocket melons, i got melons up to 17 kg, grew in part shade up to full sun, they simply need full sun and heat, even under 30% shade cloth no good, heaps of flowers and melons, plus grow other plants that give you more flowers for pollination and bees, even ants will pollinate, happy growing
Sunflower 19 Feb, stephen (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
Garden centre seeds were too expensive so I planted a whole heap of sunflower seeds which we buy from the supermarket for our cockatoo. Now I have got heaps of seedlings all very close to one another. Should I thin them out by transplanting or by pinching out? And what do you reckon is the minimum space I can leave between seedlings. Thanks

Capsicum (also Bell peppers, Sweet peppers) 16 Feb, Karen (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Help, I am after info on capsicum and Zucchini. 1. Capsicum, I grew my capsicum and it came up fairly well, I then put it into the garden, a fairly sheltered spot there I was told they do not like too much sun, 2 of the plants, did not well at all, droopy leaves and the fruit has brown hard bits on it. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong. 2. Zucchini No luck what so ever with them. they get a lot of green foliage, but mostly male flowers, no matter if in pot or ground. Whats happening? We use our compost, rich in all things, horse manure and no chemicals, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Asparagus Pea (also Winged pea) 16 Feb, Esther (Australia - temperate climate)
Asparagus pea is known as "four angled bean" from where I come from. It grows very easily when it's draped onto the fencing. We used to slice the asparagus pea & stir fry it with sambal prawn. Yummy!
Cucumber 15 Feb, Kellie (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
hi there, I am a new gardener, growing cucumber in pots on my verandah. I get to the stage where a couple of fruit are produced and then the leaves turn yellow and brittle and the whole plant seems to die back. Any ideas? Many thanks!
