Radish 14 Nov, Keren (Australia - temperate climate)
If you find a lack of root development in plants that are grown for their roots: radishes, carrots, etc., but great healthy leaves above, that would indicate too much nitrogen fertiliser. Go easy on the fertiliser and your roots will grow better.

Garlic 13 Nov, (Australia - temperate climate)
Next year just dig them up leaving the soil on them and lay the whole plant out on a rack to dry in the shade outside but out of the rain. When the tops are completly dry just pull them off and rub the soil off the bulb.

Broad Beans (also Fava bean) 07 Nov, Barb (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Hi Helen, Whether you get more broad beans will depend on the weather at this point. If it stays cool enough for the flowers to set to fruit then you may get more broad beans. However if the weather turns hot again, you may find the new flowers don't produce any fruit. We've just picked a lovely second crop on our beans - but now we're about to pull them up as it's now getting too hot, so we'll dig them in for the next crop

Do the broad bean plants have a second lot of flowers/beans? I've had a reasonable harvest, just wondering if I should dig them in now or if they may produce more. Also need to work out whether I should be dedicating water to them, in this year of no rain.

Beetroot (also Beets) 03 Nov, Mohan (Australia - temperate climate)
The critical element for growing beetroot is Boron absorbed between pH 4.5 to 6. It is best sprayed in very very small quantities, since the safe range is 0.3 ppm to 1.0 part per million. Borax(9 mg per one litre water) or Boric acid (4 mg per one litre water) or a readymade spray called solubor may be used.

Hi Amber, this is the garlic plant's other option for reproducing. You can plant the bulblets and they will turn into a garlic.. They need12 month longer than the garlic grown from cloves.
