Ginger 22 Jun, John (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
I've been growing what appears to be healthy Ginger for over 3 years now initially from rhizomes of ginger bought at the supermarket. But whenever I severe a piece for cooking it looks and smells nothing like ginger being a bleached white in colour. Is there something I'm missing in the process?
Ginger 01 Aug, John (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
No, you're not missing anything. That's just new ginger which hasn't been out of the ground long enough for the skin to toughen. It looks good, smells great, and tastes even better. Has quite spice hit, too.
Potato 22 Jun, Justin (Australia - temperate climate)
If you keep building up the compost as it grows you will get more potatoes from your crop. Just be sure to protect them from frost. Growing my first crop atm and have found potatoes as big as a 50c piece after a month and a half. Don't let the nitrogen get too high or the energy will go to the leaves instead of the potatoes.

I have two tomato plants growing in Emerald QLD. One is a determinate plant with tomato's similar shape to a roma and the other is on a stake(nice round tomato's), they come up by themselves. They both have good big green tomato's on them but will not ripen. Can anyone suggest why they are not ripening?

I am having the same problem and think it may be due to the amount of rain we've had lately. I dug around one and the development of the tuber seems to be ok. Let me know how your crop progresses.

Pumpkin 12 Jun, Sylvia Allan (Australia - arid climate)
Hi Daniel, Importing & exporting, carries high risks of the spread of germs diseases, complicated paper work stringent rules & regulations, expensive import & export license & also the cost to import or export & really scary penalties, like Jail & thousands of dollars in fines, for violation of any rules that are not carried out, nobody wants to go there. So I guess you have to research your own country to see what is available, I know many US nurseries do grow Australian Pumpkins. Good luck with your quest. Sylvia
Pumpkin 12 Jun, Narayan (Australia - temperate climate)
hi all, i have pumpkins growing in my front yard in sydney. Vandals have destroyed my apical shoots so my plants can t keep extending. On the other hand the leaves at the base of the stem are slowly dying off. Do you know if they will start sending out axillary shoots like other plants do?
Rockmelon (also Canteloupe) 12 Jun, Alan wu (Australia - tropical climate)
To stop the melon from rotting on the ground, lift the melon place 2 bricks on the ground under the melon , rest a piece of arc mesh on the bricks ( about 12 inch square, place a little dry grass on the arc mesh and lower the melon on to the dry grass. This will allow the air to keep the melon dry.
Rockmelon (also Canteloupe) 12 Jun, Alan Wu (Australia - tropical climate)
What type of fertiliser do I need to help the rockmelon plant produce flowers
