I'm interested in growing garlic in the Eastern Cape. We get a lot of snow in winter, but summer is not that hot. I've only got one concern there are a lot of moles in the ground and would like to know if it will affect my planting of garlic. please be so kind to advise me on this matter. Thank you

Garlic is a perfect mole deterrent! I plant garlic among my flowering bulbs.

What tools and implements do I need to start growing garlic in randfontein? How should the soil be prepaired per hecter? How much water is needed? Can you recomend any books on the subject? Or any other assistance.

where can i find garlic seeds for about 0,5ha, and how many seeds would i need for 0;5 ha. My tamotoes is already planted, 600 mm apart under drip irrigation, and i want to plant the garlic end of january, between or next to the tamato plants, will this work? Any suggestions or tips to follow on planting garlic will be highly appreciated

I live in Malalane, east of Nelspruit and would like to know the following. A lot of the soil here is very clay, is this ok for garlic and what type of soil is best for garlic? Is the climate here suitable for it and what would be the best times to plant? Regards Tony

I want to start garlic farming. I live in Cato Ridge. KZN. Where in or near this area can I get good quality garlic to plant. I live in a valley which gets quite cold during from julne onwards

Hi all, I live in Port Kembla and have been growing garlic here since 1995, sourced from Hungary and being a very large variety. Prior to that I was growing up to 50,000 cloves a season in the Southern Highlands. I got into a habit of checking the previous season’s crop for the root ends to appear on the bottom of an individual clove. They start out being tiny bumps. This will start to happen when the weather tends cooler. My crop for this year’s plant is ready to go in now. Read the clove. Only it knows its time. Rich organics, B&Bone D.Lifter for best results. Twice clove depth to plant in a raised row. Water daily ok if well drained. Nothing real critical in growing garlic I find. It still grows well with none of the above. Good luck and happy growing.
