could I plant beetroot in same land that garlic had fusarium rot

I would not advise it. You're better off sterilizing the soil as many plants are susceptible to fusarium root rot.

which ferterlizer is good for beetroot

Needs little nitrogen. Too much will lead to excessive foliage at the expense of root development. As long as you've given the soil a boost with blood and bone before planting, they should have enough phosphorous for healthy root growth.

It could be that the seed you bought was old. Older seeds tend to take a bit longer to germinate if at all. It could also be that you planted the seed in soil that was too cold and moist, judging by your post being in mid-winter. You could also possibly have planted the seeds too deep. This is normally a very reliable seed.

Thanks for the teaching above, QN, which disease attack beetroot and how can the problem be prevented Does beetroot need a lot of water while in the garden? * can we plant the seeds direct or they should go thru the nursery bed *at what age should be transplanted??

Beetroot is relatively disease free. Beetroot is much better sown direct into the ground than transplanted from a seed bed. Try and space the seeds out or buy seeds prespaced on seed tapes. It germinates fairly esily and needs consistent water to get get good sized beets that are not tough and stringy. If you have sown the seed direct you can always use thinings as 'baby' beets. Trust this helps.

I'm planting beets for the first time & I keep seeing conflicting advice on how far apart to space/thin beet seeds/seedlings. This website says 8" to 12", Botanical Interests says 4", Burpee says 3", etc. Do I just follow the packet & hope for the best? There's a big difference between 3 and 12 inches.
