Okra (also Ladyfinger, gumbo) 26 Apr, Razak (Australia - temperate climate)
Our okra gets lots of sun planted in late dec. Growing massively well but no fruits after flowering. My partner insists on leaving them for next season I believe they will not produce any longer after a few months. Please help us settle this dispute!
Okra (also Ladyfinger, gumbo) 12 May, Minoli (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi Razak Did you use seeds or plants? Tyr to get good seeds. Try to get a good dried long okra for seeds...from the vegi grower..... Best time to plant soaked seeds straight on vegi patch is around early December and will grow well in summer.....potty mix is sufficient ..home made compost is also good. Good luck!
Rosella (also Queensland Jam Plant, Roselle) 26 Apr, Peter Elliott (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
I have several rosella plants growing and now starting to flower with a yellow flower and a red base. I am not sure what the fruit looks like, does the fuit form after the flowering and when should it be picked?

Rocket (also Arugula/Rucola) 25 Apr, shelley (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Hi we had the same trouble with the small flies so we went to Bunnings and bought a fruit fly trap it was around $10.00 and hung it from our bean trellis and it works a treat, no more flies and we are happy to not have had to spray our vegie patch with chemicals. We did try a homemade non-chemical treatment but unfortunately it didn't work and burnt a few of the leaves.
Rocket (also Arugula/Rucola) 24 Apr, Mustang (Australia - temperate climate)
I put some of that white netting over my veggies to keep the white butterflies off. Also i check under the leaves to make sure ther are no caterpillars.
Rocket (also Arugula/Rucola) 23 Apr, liz Strauss (Australia - temperate climate)
I planted a rocket plant fron the nursery and it settled in ok, but I've noticed a little white butterfly visiting and laying tiny single white eggs which I've been squashing. Is there anything I can do do to deter these butterflies
Rocket (also Arugula/Rucola) 30 Dec, Jennifer (New Zealand - temperate climate)
Hi there, I've got white powdery splotches growing all over my rocket. It's spread through it but hasn't infected any other leaves in my mesclun mix. It doesn't come through the leaf and grows on the underneath. I haven't noticed it turning in to any other sort of bug. Can you tell me what it is?
Spinach (also English spinach) 23 Apr, Liz Strauss (Australia - temperate climate)
I planted spinach seedlings from garden centre in my newly created no dig garden last week. they seem to be settling in ok except the outer leaves are yellow. I'm hoping this is just a settling in thing or should I be doing something about it now. Also discovered a little white /pale yellow butterfly visiting vegetables. I looked under leaves and have been squashing tiny white single eggs. How do I deter these butterflies or moths.
Parsley (also curly leaf parsley or flat leaf (Italian) parsley) 22 Apr, Terry (Australia - temperate climate)
I have also had problems with possums eating my parsley - I put bird netting over the plants which has worked so far.
Broccoli 20 Apr, david young (Australia - temperate climate)
are broccolini leaves edible and if so how are they cooked thanks ?.
Garlic 20 Apr, Bill (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Another source of organic garlic is Kookaburra Organics(google the name). They are based on the Sunshine Coast (Maleny/Conondale) in Queensland. We've just bought some from them for planting for the first time. They seemed very knowledgeable and definately very helpful.
Sage (also Common Sage) 20 Apr, liz Strauss (Australia - temperate climate)

Asparagus 18 Apr, Jenny Graham (Australia - temperate climate)
I have a bed at the back of our house facing sort of west. It gets midday to evening sun in the summer but virtually no direct sun in the winter. I have successfully grown summer cropping vegies here before but have moved them to a much bigger full sun patch. I am wondering if the summer sun/winter shade patch could be used as a permanent asparagus bed or do they need all year round sun.
Choko/Chayote (also Chayote squash, christophene, chouchou, mirliton) 18 Apr, Shelly (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
I have a choko vine that is giving me some great choko's however at one end of the vine most of the chokos appear to getting stung or diseased as they have a small dark spots and slightly deformed, could you please enlighten me on this problem. I find it very strange that it is only happening in one area of the vine. Looking forward to your reply, thankyou!
Parsley (also curly leaf parsley or flat leaf (Italian) parsley) 18 Apr, (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
It grows really well in a pot. Perhaps you can put wire netting over a pot to protect it.
Parsley (also curly leaf parsley or flat leaf (Italian) parsley) 18 Apr, Michelle (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Have tried growing parsley at two different houses now and it has been completely eaten by something in both locations. I am thinking a possum? Is there a way to avoid it being eaten? Is it possible to grow it indoors? Thanks!
Parsley (also curly leaf parsley or flat leaf (Italian) parsley) 20 May, Richard (Australia - temperate climate)
A few years back in Albany WA there was a lady there who used dog hair to pack into a stocking which she tied to a stake next to her plants. I thought it was weird but it does seem to work. Possums didn't like the scent (and no it wasn't smellable to humans).
Parsley (also curly leaf parsley or flat leaf (Italian) parsley) 08 Nov, Dee (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi Michelle I've heard that a good possum deterrent is to mix a cup of molasses into one litre of water and spray it over new foliage. Apparently it also works for grasshoppers and caterpillars too.

Lettuce 17 Apr, Thalass (Australia - temperate climate)
How long does it take for lettuce to sprout? I had a couple of plants that weren't doing well and went to seed, but that was a few weeks ago. Shouldn't i be getting random seedlings soon?
Pumpkin 17 Apr, Thalass (Australia - temperate climate)
I have orange pumpkins growing. The fruit is still mostly green, but the plants are pale and dry - more or less dead it seems. Should i harvest now, or wait until they are more orange?
Pumpkin 18 Apr, (Australia - temperate climate)
You should leave pumpkins until the stalk is completely dry and hard, then they keep without rotting.
Horseradish 17 Apr, Colin Smith (Australia - temperate climate)
I live in Vermont Melbourne 3133 and want to grow my own Horseradish.....Where can I buy a root locally ? I have had varying experiences with email purchases in the past so would prefer to drive and collect it. Thank You
