Beetroot (also Beets) 19 Jul, adam (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
Hi john. I've found that a good fertilizer works, but one with very low nitrogen. It gives them a kick on without the excessive leaf growth. But I grow the Lutz greenleaf variety now, which gives me good bulbs with lovely green tops to eat as well.
Jerusalem Artichokes (also Sunchoke) 19 Jul, adam (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
They will be fine Val. You can't kill them, and they grow fast and multiply. I started with three small corms (2cm across), about 4 years ago. I now have a patch about 3 metres square.
Rhubarb 19 Jul, adam (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
Hi Maree. The only thing I can think of is that the rhubarb has had too much water. It does like to be watered, but must be free draining. If it gets a bucketing down rainstorm, over a few days, like Melbourne had recently, it can just rot in the ground.
Jerusalem Artichokes (also Sunchoke) 19 Jul, Meg (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
When are Jerusalem artichokes in the shops? I live south of Melbourne. Thanks
Chilli peppers (also Hot peppers) 18 Jul, Andrew (Australia - temperate climate)

Chilli peppers (also Hot peppers) 04 Aug, frosty (Australia - temperate climate)
Cant hurt them and I find that it improves growth of plant and bigger harvest.
Jerusalem Artichokes (also Sunchoke) 18 Jul, Anthony (Australia - temperate climate)

Beetroot (also Beets) 17 Jul, John Campbell (Australia - temperate climate)
What is the best thing to put on young beetroot plants to promote the root growth more than the leaves
Broad Beans (also Fava bean) 16 Jul, Brian Vendt (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
My broad beans are about a metre high, but still no sign of flowers!!Also,I have had a battle with Aphids in all the top shoots, and have been spraying them.If I pulled them all out, could I put climbers, and dwarf beans,in the same patch?I have above ground veggie garden, and live on the Nerang River,at the Gold Coast.Thankyou.Brian vendt
Chilli peppers (also Hot peppers) 15 Jul, Betty Devonshire (Australia - temperate climate)
I have several chilli bushes and everything was looking good. The chillis developed beautifully and were ready to start picking. The I noticed they chillis started disappearing. I couldn't see any that may have dropped of on the ground !!! The I noticed a bird swooping down and taking off with the chillis. Has any one ever had this problem? I also noticed that the ducks love them too !! Help
Artichokes (Globe) 14 Jul, Helena (Australia - temperate climate)
I Live in WA and have had the same problem, I have lost 6 plants that were purchased in small pots. I had planted 3 in the back garden and 3 in rhe front garden, slowly each one died. I have since purchased another plant and have decided to pot it on as opposed to planting it in the garden, it appears to be doing rather well, with regular watering of fish emulsion.
Garlic 13 Jul, DARREN (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
I would like to know if anyone on this forum has grown elephant garlic in pots
Garlic 04 Sep, Ron (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
Hi Darren, I am currently growing Russian/Elephant Garlic in Styrofoam box's and the stems are about 4 foot high, planted in April this year, sooooo, they should grow in pots as long as the pots are deep enough. I live on the west coast of Tassie if that's of any use.
Jerusalem Artichokes (also Sunchoke) 13 Jul, Val O (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
I saw some jerusalem artichokes in Woolies, and bought them intending to plant, but I see that it is in our warm weather you advise, if I plant them now in July will they just rot in the ground. If so how can I store them as they hardly ever appear in the stores
Jerusalem Artichokes (also Sunchoke) 18 Jul, Val O (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
Thanks to you all who advised me
Jerusalem Artichokes (also Sunchoke) 15 Jul, Di (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
Mine live in the soil all winter. Its a raised bed with good drainage though. I usually collect the ones I need throughout the dormant period and leave the rest. Manure in spring and away you go.
Jerusalem Artichokes (also Sunchoke) 14 Jul, Andrew (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
I wondered the same thing about two months ago when I got some. I saw it starting to dry out so planted in pot with top showing to observe. Root never looked back and with sun on it is clearly photosynthesizing and just waiting for warmer weather to burst forth.
Jerusalem Artichokes (also Sunchoke) 13 Jul, Justine (Australia - temperate climate)
Just pot them up into a pot with some good potting mix and compost, keep moist but not wet. Pot them out when they sprout. I leave them in the ground here, the dont usually rot over winter.
Eggplant (also Aubergine) 13 Jul, julie (Australia - tropical climate)
They could be sun burnt. Even in winter sun strong enough to burnt the tender skin of your eggplants
