We have just moved in to our new home. Made a lovely vegie garden, put in good soil mixed with cow manure. Planted 5 Rhubarb plants brought from the garden place, They all appear to be dieing What have we done wrong? We have one plant what is about 3 years old and grows very well in the same garden?
Rhubarb 11 Jun, Eve (Australia - temperate climate)
I have noticed with my rhubarb is they tend to wilt easily and need constant supply of water when it is particularly hot. They appear to need more water when younger. I also have an older plant which seems more robust.

I live in Padstow, Green Harvest have an online order for all sorts of unusual plants and seeds. Flower Power at Moorebank are also good source for seeds and sometimes plants they have some Kale and Cavolo Nero at the moment. If you want to buy leaves ready to cook, the Farmers Markets on Saturday morning at Warwick Farm racecourse is a great place and has many stalls with various products but get there early before 10.00am.

Hi Vickie, I've actually been buying vegetable seeds off Ebay. There are lots of reputatable seed providers on there and I've been very happy about the viability of the seeds that I've purchased so far. I I actually bought Red Russian Kale seeds on Sunday night and I'm eagerly waiting to receive them! Have fun!

Sweet Potato (also Kumara) 18 Feb, D JAMES (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Can anyone tell me if all sweet potatoe vines leaves are edible I am a bit of a collector and have now about 5 different types of these real streetfighting trifods. They are such a wonderful tasty sustainable easy to grow plant everyone should have some in their garden.
Sweet Potato (also Kumara) 23 Feb, Elisabeth (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Hi D James, I just harvested the tips for my vietnamese friend, she just loves them, but made it clear the fresh tips. You can use them in soups as well. She stir fries them with wood ear mushrooms and other yummy flavours. She also eats the fresh tips of the pumpkin vines as well and does something similar. I think that we need to tap into these cultures that still have a lot of their traditional foods. E Rajesh
Sweet Potato (also Kumara) 13 Apr, Pat (Australia - temperate climate)
The leaves are edible. In Asia, people eat mostly the leaves. You can stir fry them with chilli and oyster sauce, or with curry powder.
Horseradish 18 Feb, Gillian (Australia - temperate climate)
I have horseradish growing in a large pot, all I get are long thin roots... I still use them all the time though as there's nothing like fresh horseradish. What do I need to do to get a fatter root from the plant? Many thanks. Gill :)

Cucumber 16 Feb, Meriel (Australia - temperate climate)
I am growing apple cues and on the same vines they are big and white and some small ( golfball size) and yellow so how can they be overripe? I have been juicing the yellow ones and they don't seem to be bitter, I have about 4 vines and they are all doing the same thing, some small and yellow are in shade some in sun, some big and white are hanging in sun in rosé bushes and on trellis covered by leaves, all deep watered nearly every day. It is a puzzle.......
Rockmelon (also Canteloupe) 16 Feb, marilyn (Australia - temperate climate)
We have an incredible crop of very large rockmelons - organic. Unfortunately, slatters & dung bettles got into 6 ripe ones followed by vinegar flies which rotted them. Because the ones nearby were going to be attacked I picked them. They are not quite ripe. Is there any method of ripening picked rock melon? At last we have 4 days of cooler weather so I can spray with natural oils & pyrethrum. I am reluctant to pick any more until I am sure they will ripen. Thanks

Garlic 14 Feb, Sharon (Australia - temperate climate)
Can anyone please tell me where I can get seeds for the Chinese green garlic leaves - I buy it from my veggie shop in bunches and use it for stirfrys. The garlic chives are not as big as the ones the Chinese sell
Garlic 18 Feb, Sara (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
Your Garlic stems are just plain garlic growing in the garden. Instead they harvest the shoots before the bulbs mature. It is a wise thiNg to grow your own.
