Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 30 Jul, (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
After problems initially getting them established-they are now taking over the garden-presumably the recent years of unusual rainfall have helped! They are now becoming very straggly with less fruit-should they now be hard pruned and fertilised? Help! Kris
Garlic 30 Jul, Rick (Australia - temperate climate)
Is it too late to plant Garlic now?
Garlic 07 Aug, Kevin (Australia - temperate climate)
Probably is too late,I always plant in March, however it does depend on your soil temperature, why not plant them nothing to lose and cover with black plastic which will raise the Temp of the soil. As soon as the green shoots come through remove the cover.
Tomato 28 Jul, Jo (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi All, I have tried and tried to grow heirloom toms from seed. Brought a heat pad - think I cooked the plants, tried another lot - left them to their own devices, they didn't germinate. But SSSOOOOOO much more annoying was the ones I found in the crack of the path that had germinated...... Help - what am I doing wrong ?. thanks Jo
Tomato 09 Sep, Chris (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi Jo, Am guessing the issue was you left the heat pad in play after the emergence of the seeds at full heat. I have a heat pad which I am using for the first time and it says to space the plat tray above the heat pad as required to achieve the temp required. Not sure how to do this yet but this may be the issue. They say you need 16 to 35 degrees to germinate. Own devices may have been a bit cool. Guessing only

Shallots (also Eschalots) 27 Jul, Nodswollef (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
I have a lovely crop of shallots growing. I sometimes pick some tops and eat them raw. Beautiful flavour. Can I continue to pick some of the tops from each plant, without effecting the quality of the bulbs to be harvested at the end on the year?
Onion 26 Jul, Kathi Thomas (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi, I planted out gladalan onions and they are near my snow peas that are flourishing. It says not to plant near peas so (at the risk of sounding silly) does this include snow peas. I am in the shoalhaven area, Nowra
Asparagus 26 Jul, Jessica (Australia - temperate climate)
Do asparagus do well if I was to start them as a seedling in a greenhouse?
Asparagus 26 Aug, Norm (Australia - temperate climate)
Yes Jessica, asparagus grow well from seedling even when not in a greenhouse. It does take much longer to produce edible spears this way . Using crowns, at least 3 years old, would be quicker but more expensive.

Hi i plant raddish in the ground , and i put water daily now is 5 weeks .i don,t see any thing caming in the ground. so what is the reason . thanks for your help kishinchand
Radish 22 Jul, (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
Radish usually show up in 5-10 days. Maybe too much water? No need for water every day if the soil is wet enough to stay together in a lump if you squeeze it in your hand. Try some more seed and less watering.
Sunflower 21 Jul, Peter Smith (Australia - temperate climate)
The cheapest place I've found to get sunflower seeds is in the birdseed section of the supermarket. The ones I bought came up well. There were two varieties; ones with a single large flower and ones with multiple smaller flowers. One bag gave enough seeds for me and to supply every gardener I know.
Sunflower 22 Jul, (Australia - temperate climate)
Yes - those seeds grow really well!
Cauliflower 20 Jul, (Australia - temperate climate)
