Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 20 Aug, Danielle (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi Robin, Cape Gooseberries are self-pollinating, so you only require one plant. If you have the room to grow two though, I'd recommend it as they're very tasty!
Horseradish 11 Aug, Kevin (Australia - sub-tropical climate)

Would anyone have any roots of rhubarb to spare please? Or let me know where I could find them in the Toowoomba area of Queensland. I have tried growing them from seedlings but with no success.

Was wondering where I would be able to find the artichoke tubers in the Toowoomba area of Queensland? We are about 35 kms NW of Toowoomba and I do know they grow well in our black soil. I love them and have heard they are great for diabetes which I have.

Have you tried looking for them at your local Woolworths/Coles? That's where I found the tubers I grew last year. Good luck!
Jerusalem Artichokes (also Sunchoke) 14 Aug, Sherrie Cordie (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
Hi Helen - Happy to sell you some tubers, how many would you like? They should grow really well in the Toowoomba area (I lived there for years myself) as the soil and climate is very similar to where I live here in Victoria. If you're interested please e-mail me. Ginger 08 Aug, Jagger (Australia - tropical climate)
I've moved from Brighton in Vic to Malaysia to China to rural Darwin. I grew to love Asian food. Since arriving in Darwin I have planted Ginger in a pot. Now in late July/ early August the leaves have died off and I am wondering what to do now. The previous year I left it and it turned to a hollow case of ginger bark. The year before that I harvested it and it was extremely woody. Can someone please tell me how to harvest, store and replant the ginger so I can increase my harvest year on year? Thanks!
Cucumber 08 Aug, Leanne (Australia - temperate climate)

Beans - climbing (also Pole beans, Runner beans, Scarlet Runners) 06 Aug, Peter Lawler (Australia - temperate climate)
I have just cleaned up last years trellis of old runners and have noted the growing of a few new plants in their place. I have cleared additional space for the beans and wonder if I should plant beans now or wait until late September-October as I have done in the past

Horseradish 14 Aug, Peter (Australia - temperate climate)
Hit the local growers/farmers market, my local one has horse radish some times & the more up-market fruit/veg store have it as well. It grows better than a weed in the right conditions from root stock. My dad used to grow it in full sun but marshy clayish soil.
Potato 06 Aug, Annie Bate (Australia - temperate climate)
Can I grow potatoes that were bought from a supermarket last year. I would like to grow them in a pot.
Potato 12 Aug, toby (Australia - temperate climate)
I always use potatoes that were bought from the market.Ijust leave a few in the window until they shoot, then cut them in about four pieces leaving a shoot on each.
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 05 Aug, Elaine (Australia - temperate climate)
I have a gooseberry bush pop out of nowhere and it has a few gooseberries on it. Now I have purchased seeds and I am hoping to plant them soon. Hope they will grow well. I am in the northern beaches of NSW just up from Manly - hope it will grow well.
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 05 Aug, Evelyn (Australia - temperate climate)
My plants have got lots of fruit developing, but there seem to be clusters of red dots on the tips of the leaves and the leaves are going yellowish. It doesn't seem to be affecting the fruit. Also cobwebs on the ends of the stems. Does anyone have any idea what my red menace is and how I should treat it? Thanks.
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 18 Aug, Danielle Jones (Australia - temperate climate)
It sounds like your cape gooseberries have a spider mite infestation. I usually just remove the affected parts of the plant or wash the mites off (if it's warm enough for the plant to dry off quickly) but if you don't object to using chemicals, I'm sure you'd be able to find something at your local garden store. Good luck!
Spinach (also English spinach) 05 Aug, Doug (Australia - tropical climate)
My spinich is wilted, looking as though it needs a drink. Apart from needing water what would cause this
Spinach (also English spinach) 06 Feb, flange (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
definitely watering it needs to be be done after sunlight or long before so there is no water on the leaves when the full sun hits or it will wilt
Celeriac 04 Aug, al (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
We live in a cool climate. I have tried growing Celeric for the past two seasons. The plants appear healthy, but the bulbous root will not form. My last plants were germinated in September and planted out in November. By July, I still did not have a true Celeric root, Any advice here?
Rutabaga (also Swedes) 04 Aug, johno (Australia - temperate climate)
I have grown Sweds for the first time this year with not much success. Theye have grown more like a tube instead of a ball and they seem to have all the growth above the ground. The foilage on top is huge so I think the growth has gone to the top instead of under the soil. Can anyone suggest ways to improve next years crop.
Potato 03 Aug, leanne (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
If your potatoes are still in the ground and light has turned the tops green are they still alright to cover with earth or should you throw them away?
Potato 16 Aug, Judy K. (Australia - temperate climate)
Do not eat the green potato, it is toxic.
Rhubarb 03 Aug, Bob Baker (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
How shady is shady? We are on the Gold Coast. The area I have in mind is a passage on the south side of a north facing house so sees very little direct sunlight. Is that too shady?
Rhubarb 03 Aug, Gene (Australia - temperate climate)
The more sun the better. I had mine growing in a fairly shady position - similar to what you are describing and they didn't crop very well at all. Probably two pathetic harvests a year. I was almost going to give up on it but decided to transplant it (about this time of the year) and it spent last year from August onwards in full sunlight. Considering the transplanting, I was expecting it to do almost nothing again - BUT - the cropping was sensational. Plenty of fertiliser at regular intervals and I was picking it every couple of weeks. So my advice is - the more sun the better. Plant it in the shade and it will still perform, but not very well.
Rhubarb 04 Aug, Bob Baker (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Thanks Gene, info greatly appreciated. Will rethink where to plant rhubarb. Now just have to find serious shade loving plants. Bob
