I lost most of my crop to the wet chill weather this past summer. I'll have to buy chook feed this year. Can anyone recommend the hardiest crop that can tough out changing climate. rainy, windy wet cold ... nevermind... I'm moving :) Same question for maize if you have knowledge
Sunflower 27 Mar, (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
The weather works against us sometimes.
Rutabaga (also Swedes) 21 Mar, Greg J (Australia - temperate climate)
Swedes actually freeze long term pretty good, if you cook them and mash them up the same way you would to serve them, and then stick the mash in plastic bags and stick them in the deep freeze. The frozen mash lasts for months, and you just whip out a bag when you want a side dish of mashed swedes and let it defrost, and off you go! No difference in taste or texture at all.

It's usually called Fordhook Giant on the punnet labels.
Silverbeet (also Swiss Chard or Mangold) 10 Mar, Birgitt (Australia - temperate climate)
If you're after the Latin name, my label says Beta vulgaris var. cicla : Amaranthaceae / the amaranth family (It's on the silverbeet page of Gardenate - Editor)
Amaranth (also Love-lies-bleeding) 09 Mar, Collie_Handyman 46 (Australia - temperate climate)
amaranth should grow in Darwin in the Dry season it germinates in the south west south of Perth in march Darwin temp never gets below 17 deg in June and July I lived in Humpty Doo south of Darwin and grew it and Rosellas for about 30 years used to add the seeds to Homemade bread .

Good afternoon, I am trying to find a supplier for SOFT NECK GARLIC to plant in a home garden not commercial, I live in Far North QLD in the Tablelands (Dambulla). Would like some information as to time to plant or any other types of GARLIC that would grow well here. Thanking you in advance!
Garlic 10 Mar, Rod (Australia - temperate climate)
Emma, try Tasmanian gourmet garlic. They sell to people up here like us. If you're in Danbullah you are probably subtropical or temperate (like us at Lake Eacham). They have some great information on their website as well. Start of May is the time to plant, depending on how wet it is.
Garlic 21 Mar, Emma Vela (Australia - tropical climate)
Thank you ROD from Lake Eacham for your information, cheers.

Red Dutch, Sugarloaf, Wombok.
Cabbage 23 Mar, Peter Myers (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Copenhagen do well in the subtropics; I have grown them for years. When harvesting, cut below the cabbage, then new smaller cabbages grow from the same root. This year I am trying Primo. I plant seed mid-Feb to mid-Mar, after rain. Transplant a month later. I will be transplanting Primo soon. Got Kale (Blue) out yesterday.
Cabbage 28 Mar, EMMA-LOUISE PARRY (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
