Cucumber 13 Mar, Peter Cyr (USA - Zone 8b climate)
I plan to plant them in a spot with a bag of composted chicken manure in Zone 8b. Any suggestions? Last year my cuke plants were glorious and were started from a packet of seeds. Unfortunately I did not get one cuke. Lots of flowers but I think they turned out to be all males.
Cucumber 02 Oct, Tera in El Paso (USA - Zone 8b climate)
Same problem here this year; beautiful leaves, taking over the area on my balcony....but all male flowers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know with tomatoes you have to get the temperature to drop low enough to get them to fruit, maybe same with cucumbers?

Mix in well composted manure with some good friable soil - about 1 part manure to 3 parts soil. Too much manure and the soil will have too much nitrogen. The female flowers have little cucumbers behind the flower. You need bees to pollinate the flowers. Check between 7 and 11am to see if bees are active. You can hand pollinate, read how to do it.

Most crops have a preferred season or two to grow during. There are reasons for that. That is why this website recommends growing at certain times of the year.

If you mean when do you start zucchini seedlings, specifically, the chart says you should start them in September in your zone.

Work out your climate zone from the Blue Tab across the top of the page. Then go to the vegie you want to grow to find out when to plant the seeds. Use the monthly calendar for when to plant seeds or seedlings. With little seeds like cabbage it may be better to buy seedlings. Do some research on the internet about growing vegies -

It's perfect as a side dish for any meal. I grow my own so I was looking for new ideas and like yourself I highly recommend trying to grow your own (As a guide: https://www.gardenate.com/plant/Asparagus?zone=2 or https://gardenerland.com/edible/vegetables/growing-asparagus/ ). It does taste better than the shop bought plants.
